Fab Labs
Written by Josh on October 20, 2008 – 4:34 am -The Fab laboratories so far consists of high technology equipments and goods, together with cutters which is mainly a laser and a vinyl cutter which is usually used for creating signs but is utilized in the labs for cutting copper used in circuits, and a 3-Dimensional mill machine to construct circuits boards, all associated with computers that runs on Linux and are laden with designs and developed software, more often than not used for teaching kids about technology, also to allow them to have fun and discover, and also to provide adults with a place where they can look around for some new designs for commercial purpose. All these cost about $25,000.
Though the labs have so many effects yet they are capable of being much more than what they are now. Their main idea is to empower, particularly in rural and budding organizations by providing the people with the capacity to design as well as to produce the utensils they need or desire to work out local troubles. In the country like Ghana to turn its near-constant sunlight into power, lab workers are desperately trying very hard to come out with an economical technique to build huge solar energy collectors. In Pabal which is not a big organization situated in India, 100 miles far in the remote areas of Bombay (Mumbai), laboratory workers develops problem-solving device which helps in fixing the engines of the tractors with time related difficulties and for small ships and machines used in de-icing in windmills, lab workers are working on GPS system in the lab situated in Norway.
Inventing a mechanism which can assemble any other machine, and can publish 3-Dimensional items including all the circuitry as well as the mechanisms they require to heat up, formulate sound, move around, hook up to the Internet and also to perform whatever work they are intending to do is what Gershenfeld wants to assemble. Though a machine like this does not exist yet, but Gershenfeld along with his co-workers believe that an edition like this can be made in future.
