Before we buy a CNC milling machine it is very necessary for us to have knowledge about the basic parts of CNC milling machine. CNC machines can well be called as industrial robot systems, as they are capable of performing any kind of machining process according to the specially coded programs in G-code notations, inside certain physical restrictions like other robotic systems. A safety shield that is frequently a clear plastic, cover up and protects the cutting region of the CNC milling machine. The part of the CNC milling machine that does the cutting is called the Tool bit. The Tool bit is held by the Spindle Shaft. The cutter of the CNC milling machine is driven by the Spindle Motor. The spindle and rest of its part are held by the Vertical Column. A portable support where the work piece is being cut is called the Cross Side. The axis motors are the one that moves the cross side into dissimilar axis and the Controller box.

Before one purchases the milling machine it should be kept in mind to check that the milling machines have all of the above parts in the CNC milling machine, because if any one of the above part is missing, the milling machine will surely not work or even if it works it will give an unwanted end result. Care must also be taken that the CNC Milling machines have an emergency stop button, as this button will automatically stop the machine in an emergency situation when it is pressed. There can be big losses due to human, hardware or software errors if one is unable to stop the CNC immediately to correct the problem.

One should also more watchful about cracks and breaks on the CNC milling tools. The plastic shield purchased to cover the milling machine should be made up of high force polycarbonate plastic.
