Calculate the horse power needed for energy source of a milling machine to produce a force of 5000lb interface between the cutter and the workpiece. The speed? Cutter? 450sfm and the relationship of power between the source and the interface? 2.1 - 1.

    The energy (work) is the distance of time strength and the power is energy-time units. Thus the energy required is the cutter (5000) (450) (pounds) (ft) / minute. You can convert this into the horsepower cutter and then horsepower at source.
